Meet Your Neighbor | A magnificent North American bird species, the barred owl roosts in deep forest during the day, coming out at night to hunt small animals, especially rodents. Their call is readily identifiable as, “Who cooks for you?” This particular bird spent 8 hours quetly roosting on that post next to a Braintree Hill compost piles, Monday. If you are lucky enough to have one in your neighborhood, you should have many sightings over the years, for barred owls reside in one area year-round, and have a life expectancy of about 18 years.
